When you start typing in the second value, Excel recognizes the pattern and predicts the values for the rest of the column. Begin typing the second value below the first. Type the first value you want to extract in the new column and press Enter. Note: If you have a large amount of data or there are a lot of similar values, you may have to type a few cells for Excel to detect the pattern. Click the cell to the right of the data you want to work with. First, tell Excel what you want to do by entering a correct email address in cell C1. For example, use flash fill in Excel to join the last names in column A below and the first names in column B below to create email addresses. The keyboard shortcut for Mac is Ctrl+E, just as in the Windows version. On the Data tab, in the Data Tools group, click Flash Fill (or press CTRL + E).
